About Me

My job is change.

[My CV will give you a sense of how much change I’ve managed over the years. More details and a portfolio are coming.]

I started out as a writer/editor, and morphed into a documentary and daily public affairs television program producer. Got my start in the media world with the high school newspaper, using the original Mac and Pagemaker 1.0. I’ve been a web monkey since the days of Netscape and dialup–I was the Mikey who was given the then-unpopular task of putting together websites for our television documentaries, primarily because I was the resident go-to person for computer questions.

I spent several years splitting my time between television production and web producing, and then one day, while on maternity leave with my first child, I got a call from my boss saying that I’d been assigned to be the senior editor for our new web team. Yes, most women fear losing their professional position while on maternity leave — I was working at a place where your professional dreams can come true while you’re taking care of your first-born.

Two things that really bother me are bad user experiences, and product “reviews” that are basically press releases warmed up in the microwave.

And: I love marine mammals.

You might see my photos of whales, dolphins and otters interspersed throughout my site.

I Love Data

I love to pull together data from multiple sources and make sense of the trends — especially if it means I get to create complex interrelated Google Sheets and Google Data Studio dashboards.

…And Tech

I love playing with new tech toys and exploring how they can impact our lives.

I’m an appaholic who claims that keeping up with industry developments is behind my compulsive desire to try new apps out. I’m prone to periodically indulging in productivity pron. My definition of a good day at work is getting to dive deep into a Google Analytics site analysis, and learning new spreadsheet tricks.
